INEC Releases Final List of 18 Presidential Candidates for 2027 Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the final list of Presidential candidates and their running mates for the January 2027 general elections.

The list, signed by the Secretary to the Commission, Rose Oriaran-Anthony, was released on Saturday in Abuja and contains the names of Presidential candidates sponsored by 18 political parties.

According to the Commission, 16 of the Presidential candidates are male, while two are female.

The candidates include incumbent President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), former Anambra State Governor Peter Gregory Obi of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), and other candidates representing various political parties.

Other notable names on the list include former Cross River State Governor Donald Duke of the People’s Redemption Party (PRP), Omoyele Sowore of the African Action Congress (AAC), and Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).

Global Mirror News reports that the Commission also listed 14 male and four female vice-presidential candidates.

The four female running mates are Peace Egobia Ofordile of the Allied Peoples Party (APP), Nafisat Usaku Abubakar of the Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA), Hajja Bintu Konto of the Labour Party (LP), and Patience Ndidi Key of the Young Progressive Party (YPP).

6. AA: Rufai Adekunle Omo-Aje / Shehu Hussaini

8. APP: Kabiru Yusuf / Peace Egobia Ofordile
9. AAC: Omoyele Sowore / Haruna Garba Magashi

The commission said the final list also covers candidates for the Senate and House of Representatives elections.

The release of the presidential list marks another major step towards the 2027 general elections, with political parties and their candidates expected to intensify campaigns and mobilisation ahead of the polls.

The January 2027 election is expected to feature candidates from different political parties competing for the presidency, while voters will also elect representatives to the National Assembly.
