Former Ogun NURTW Boss Iyeru Reportedly Dies

Former Chairman of the Ogun State chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alhaji Akeem Bodunrin, popularly known as Iyeru, has reportedly died.

The report of his death began circulating on Saturday, September 12, 2026, throwing members of the transport community and his associates into uncertainty.

However, the reported death had not been officially confirmed as of the time of filing this report. The circumstances surrounding the alleged death, including the time, location and possible cause, were also not immediately known.

Iyeru was a prominent figure in Ogun State’s transport sector and had, over the years, played a major role in the affairs of transport unions and park management in the state.

He was also appointed to lead the Ogun State Park Management structure during the period of the crisis that affected the NURTW in the state. His activities in the transport sector made him a well-known figure among transport workers and other stakeholders in Ogun.

Earlier reports identified Bodunrin as a major figure in the state’s transport union leadership, with his name frequently featuring in developments surrounding the management of parks and garages across Ogun.

His tenure and activities in the sector also attracted controversy, particularly during disputes involving rival transport unions. In December 2022, for instance, rival groups exchanged allegations following a violent clash at an event in Itori attended by Governor Dapo Abiodun. Bodunrin, through his representatives, denied allegations linking him to the violence.
