Gov. Abiodun’s Aide, Odufowokan Bags Two Royal Titles as He Marks 50th Birthday in Grand Style

It was a remarkable double celebration in Remoland on Thursday, August 20, 2026, as Otunba ’Dare Odufowokan, Senior Special Assistant to Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, on Public Communications, marked his 50th Birthday with the conferment of two prestigious traditional chieftaincy titles.

Odufowokan, who was celebrated by family members, friends, Government officials, traditional rulers and associates on his Golden Jubilee, was installed as the Mayegun of Iraye Remo by the Nloku of Iraye Remo, Oba Adimula Afolabi Ogunlaja, earlier in the day.

Later in the afternoon, the celebrant received another honour when the Eleposo of Eposo Remo, Oba Mukaila Akanji Olabinjo, conferred on him the title of Otunba Onigegewura of Eposo Remo at a colourful ceremony attended by dignitaries from across Ogun State.

The unusual conferment of two chieftaincy titles on the same day was described by palace officials as a rare honour, reflecting Odufowokan’s contributions to youth development, community service and the socio-economic advancement of Iraye Remo, Eposo Remo, Ode Remo, Remoland and Ogun State.

At the palace of the Nloku of Iraye Remo, Oba Ogunlaja praised the celebrant for his humility, loyalty and commitment to public service while performing the traditional rites for his installation as Mayegun.

The monarch said Odufowokan had remained steadfast in his support for the traditional institution and had demonstrated uncommon commitment to the development of the community.

According to him, the new Mayegun had stood by him during difficult periods and had continued to contribute positively to the affairs of Iraye Remo.

Oba Ogunlaja described the honour as both a recognition of past contributions and a renewed call for greater service to the community.

At the palace of the Eleposo of Eposo Remo, Oba Olabinjo similarly described Odufowokan as an individual committed to the public good and who had consistently supported developmental initiatives in Eposo Remo and the wider Remoland.

The monarch said the conferment of the Otunba Onigegewura title was in recognition of the celebrant’s contributions to the growth and development of Eposo Remo, Remoland and Ogun State.

Responding to the honours, Odufowokan expressed gratitude to God, Governor Dapo Abiodun, the traditional rulers and the people of Ogun State for the recognition.

He described his 50th birthday as one of the most memorable milestones of his life, saying the twin honours had further strengthened his resolve to contribute to peace, unity and development across Remoland.

“I am deeply humbled. This 50th birthday will remain unforgettable. I accept these titles with gratitude and promise to use them to advance peace, unity and development in Remoland and Ogun State,” he said.

The ceremonies attracted members of the Ogun State Executive Council, traditional chiefs, political leaders, captains of industry, community leaders, friends and associates of the celebrant.

Several of the dignitaries described Odufowokan as a bridge-builder, loyal public servant and an aide who had maintained strong relationships with communities and stakeholders while serving in the administration of Governor Abiodun.

The Mayegun title traditionally carries the symbolism of a defender, promoter and supporter of the interests of a Yoruba community or traditional realm, while the Otunba Onigegewura title signifies leadership, counsel and responsible stewardship within the traditional institution.

For Odufowokan, the two honours have added a distinctive dimension to his golden jubilee celebration, turning his 50th birthday into a major cultural and community event in Remoland.

The celebrations culminated in prayers, cultural performances, a reception and thanksgiving, as guests joined the celebrant in expressing gratitude for his journey to the age of 50 and wishing him greater accomplishments in the years ahead.

Global Mirror News gathered that the dual traditional honours have further underscored the growing recognition of Odufowokan’s community engagement and public service, particularly his activities within Remoland and Ogun State.
