The historic event, which combined the Association’s Annual General Meeting (AGM), 30th Anniversary celebration and inauguration of a new Executive Council, was held on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at the premises of Anglican High School, Quarry Road, Abeokuta.

The celebration brought together members of the 1996 graduating set, former teachers, dignitaries, family members, friends and other guests in an atmosphere filled with nostalgia, gratitude, entertainment and renewed commitment to the Association and its alma mater.

Global Mirror News gathered that the occasion also marked the conclusion of Chief Ajikiolu’s four-year tenure as President and the beginning of a new chapter under the leadership of Chief Olugbenga Adekambi, Mayegun.

Ajikiolu hands over after four years of service

In his valedictory address, the immediate past President, Chief Aremu Bamgboye-Ajikiolu, expressed gratitude to God for granting him the opportunity to serve the Association and successfully complete his four-year tenure.

He appreciated past Presidents, members of his Executive Council and the entire membership for their cooperation, support and commitment throughout his administration.

Chief Bamgboye specifically acknowledged the contributions of Alhaji Saheed Meshioye, Alhaji Abdulfatai Osunsanya, Chief Olugbenga Adekambi, Alhaji Kushimo, Officer Folorunsho Olubiyi and Alhaji Waliu Adekunle,, among others, for their unwavering support.

He said the achievements recorded during his administration were the result of collective efforts and the determination of members to sustain the bond that had kept the 1996 set together for three decades.

New constitution strengthens Association

One of the major achievements highlighted by the outgoing President was the creation of a new constitutional document to guide the rules, regulations and operations of AHSOSA 96 Set.

He explained that the constitution was designed to provide a clearer framework for the administration of the Association and ensure continuity from one executive council to another.

His administration also fixed the annual anniversary celebration for the third Saturday of August every year, a decision he said was taken for convenience and financial considerations.

The outgoing executive further effected changes to the Association’s official signatories to reflect the new leadership and doubled the number of executive positions to promote more effective participation and distribution of responsibilities.

Empowerment scheme launched to assist members

Chief Ajikiolu also recalled the establishment of an empowerment programme aimed at helping members cope with economic challenges.

Under the initiative, members who urgently required financial assistance could access ₦50,000, repayable within six months.

However, he disclosed that the programme was later suspended after some beneficiaries failed to repay the money they received, thereby affecting the sustainability of the scheme.

Support for Anglican High School

The immediate past President also highlighted several interventions undertaken by his administration in support of Anglican High School.

Among the projects was the painting of the names of the past senior and junior principals on the entrance wall of the school as a way of preserving the institution’s history and honouring former school administrators.

His administration also presented a large Storex reservoir tank to the school to support its water supply.

Chief Ajikiolu disclosed that he personally undertook the payment of the salary of the school’s night security guard for several years before the National Executive later intervened.

Welfare of members and families

The outgoing President said his administration also prioritised the welfare of members and their families.

He recalled the annual Christmas gesture through which executive members and other members received gifts of rice and chicken.

He also extended financial assistance to children of deceased AHSOSA 96 Set members and widows, stressing the importance of standing by members’ families even after their loved ones had passed away.

During his tenure, the Association’s annual dues were also reviewed upward from ₦12,000 to ₦24,000, which he attributed largely to inflation and the increasing cost of running the Association’s activities.

27th Anniversary celebrated with sports and music

Chief Ajikiolu recalled the successful organisation of an inter-house sporting event as part of activities marking the Association’s 27th anniversary.

His administration also coordinated media publicity for the Association, including jingles and announcements on radio, television and newspapers.

A major entertainment highlight of the 27th Anniversary celebration in 2023 was the invitation of the late popular gospel musician, Saint Janet, who performed at the event in a programme sponsored by the outgoing President.

Adekambi pledges transparent and united leadership

In his acceptance speech, the newly elected President, Chief Olugbenga Adekambi-Mayegun, described his emergence as a great honour and a responsibility that he accepted with humility.

He thanked members for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to serve with integrity, transparency, dedication and commitment.

Chief Adekambi said his emergence was not about an individual but about the collective progress of AHSOSA 96 Set.

He therefore called on all members to join hands with his administration in building a stronger, more united and more impactful Association.

He promised to remain open to members’ ideas, contributions and constructive advice, while emphasising the need to promote friendship, mutual support and the development of their alma mater.

He also pledged to work towards leaving behind a legacy that future generations of the Association would be proud of.

Former English teacher, Mrs Cole, delivers emotional goodwill message

One of the memorable moments of the celebration was the appearance of Mrs Cole, one of the former English teachers of Anglican High School, who graced the 30th Anniversary ceremony alongside her husband and other distinguished guests.

Her presence added a special dimension to the reunion, as the former students had the opportunity to welcome and celebrate one of the teachers who contributed to their education and development during their formative years.
