Hotel Worker Steals 8 Refrigerators, Sells 3 to Scrap Dealer Before Police Catch Him

A hotel employee in Niger State has been arrested after allegedly stealing eight refrigerators from his workplace and selling three of them to a scrap dealer.

The suspect, identified as Elijah Ahmed, was arrested by operatives of the Niger State Police Command following a complaint over the theft.

The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, disclosed the arrest in a statement issued at the weekend.

According to the Police, Ahmed, who resides around the Tunga, Abdulsalam Motor Park area, was arrested by operatives attached to the Tudun-Wada Division after he was accused of stealing the eight refrigerators from the hotel where he worked.

Police investigations reportedly uncovered the alleged movement of the stolen items, with five refrigerators recovered from the suspect.

However, investigators discovered that Ahmed had already sold the remaining three refrigerators to a scrap dealer within the area.

The scrap dealer, who is now wanted by the Police, reportedly fled and is currently at large.

Abiodun said the suspect was taken into custody as investigations continued into the circumstances surrounding the theft and the disposal of the stolen property.

The Police spokesperson further confirmed that Ahmed had been charged to court for prosecution.

The arrest highlights the importance of effective internal security and proper monitoring of valuable equipment in business establishments, particularly where employees have direct access to company property.

The Niger State Police Command has continued to urge residents and business owners to promptly report suspected criminal activities and provide useful information that could assist security agencies in preventing and investigating crime.
