Adeola Gives Hunye, Marcus-Bello 24 Hours to Prove Ekiti Origin Claim

Senator Solomon Adeola, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship candidate in Ogun State and Senator representing Ogun West, has threatened legal action against Hon. Abayomi Hunye and Ambassador Folake Marcus-Bello over what he described as false and libellous claims about his state of origin and his family.

Adeola, in a statement issued by his Media Adviser, Chief Kayode Odunaro, on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, gave the two politicians 24 hours to publicly provide evidence to support their claims or face lawsuits.

Hunye, a suspended member of the APC from Tube in Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State, and Marcus-Bello of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), had appeared on programmes aired by Channels Television, where they reportedly claimed that Adeola was an indigene of Ekiti State.

The Senator rejected the allegation, describing it as false, malicious and defamatory. He challenged both individuals to provide verifiable evidence for their claims, particularly regarding his place of origin and family background.

According to Adeola, the allegations were made without supporting evidence despite being aired on national television and subsequently circulated across other media platforms.

“I watched in utter disbelief as these characters that I hardly know utter assertive and outrageous lies about my origin without any proof,” Adeola was quoted as saying.

He further alleged that one of the individuals claimed on television that he was from Ekiti State but could not identify the specific location when asked to do so.

Adeola also criticised claims concerning the locations of his parents’ graves, describing such assertions as another attempt to support what he called an “unsustainable falsehood.”

“Enough is enough. They should produce their evidence in 24 hours or be ready for my lawsuits,” he stated.

The Senator maintained that the controversy over his alleged Ekiti origin was not new, claiming that similar allegations had previously been deployed as a political strategy to discourage his emergence as the senator representing Ogun West.

Adeola said the alleged campaign did not prevent him from winning the support of voters in Ogun West during the 2023 National Assembly elections, when he was elected to represent the senatorial district.

The statement further alleged that the renewed controversy over his origin was connected to the 2027 governorship election in Ogun State and his aspiration to succeed Governor Dapo Abiodun.

Adeola’s camp described the latest allegations as a revival of an old political narrative aimed at undermining his growing political profile ahead of the 2027 election.

Global Mirror News reports that the senator’s challenge places the burden squarely on Hunye and Marcus-Bello to provide documentary or other credible evidence capable of substantiating their claims within the 24-hour deadline issued by Adeola.

The threatened legal action could also shift the controversy from political debate to the courts if the parties fail to resolve the dispute or provide the evidence demanded by the senator.
