Youths, Students March In Abeokuta, Declare Support For Tinubu, Abiodun, Yayi Ahead Of 2027
Scores of youths, students, supporters and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have taken to the streets of Abeokuta, Ogun State, in a solidarity trek declaring their support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Dapo Abiodun and Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The solidarity procession, organised by the Youth and Students Wings of the Yayi Progressives Movement, was described by the group as a demonstration of loyalty to the three political leaders and an expression of confidence in their respective political aspirations.
Speaking at the Ake Palace in Abeokuta after the procession, Convener of the Yayi Progressives Movement, Engr. Armstrong ‘Tope Akintunde, said the initiative was designed to mobilise young people and students for active participation in the democratic process while reaffirming their commitment to the leadership of the All Progressives Congress.
Akintunde said the movement was specifically organised to support President Tinubu’s expected bid for a second term, Governor Abiodun’s reported ambition to contest for the Ogun Central Senatorial seat and Senator Adeola’s aspiration to become the next governor of Ogun State.
According to him, the group believes the three leaders have demonstrated varying degrees of commitment to governance, economic development, youth empowerment and infrastructure, which, he said, informed the decision to publicly identify with their political aspirations.
He pointed particularly to the economic reforms of the Tinubu administration, alongside what he described as the developmental initiatives and empowerment programmes associated with Governor Abiodun and Senator Adeola.
Akintunde also commended Senator Adeola for his contributions to youth empowerment, constituency development and infrastructure across Ogun State, saying his political activities had continued to attract the support of young people in the state.
«“We have every reason to support our principals because we are confident that, come 2027, they will record a landslide victory. Over the past three years, President Tinubu’s reforms and Senator Yayi’s track record in empowerment, infrastructure development and constituency projects have continued to inspire many young people to support their leadership,” Akintunde said.»
The procession began at the MKO Abiola International Stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta, where participants assembled before moving through some major streets of the Ogun State capital.
The youths and students marched peacefully while displaying banners and placards bearing messages of solidarity for Tinubu, Abiodun and Adeola. They also chanted political slogans as they moved through the city, attracting the attention of residents and motorists along the route.
The organisers said the exercise was not only intended to demonstrate political support but also to encourage young people to become more involved in political activities and the democratic process.
Akintunde stressed that the solidarity trek was specifically in support of the trio of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Dapo Abiodun and Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi), describing them as the movement’s principal political leaders.
Also speaking at the Ake Palace, former two-term member of the House of Representatives representing Ijebu Central Federal Constituency and Co-Convener of the Yayi Progressives Movement, Hon. Kehinde Odeneye, described the procession as peaceful, orderly and well coordinated.
Odeneye commended Akintunde for what he described as his efforts towards promoting unity, love and cohesion among the youth and student wings of the movement.
He said the peaceful mobilisation demonstrated the capacity of young people to participate constructively in political activities without compromising public order.
«“The Youth and Students Wings of the movement have conducted this peaceful and orderly exercise under our supervision. This initiative promotes unity, encourages active political participation, and strengthens youth engagement within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State,” Odeneye said.»
He added that the movement remained committed to its political alignment with its leaders and would continue to support what it described as their vision ahead of the 2027 elections.
«“We also want the public to know that we remain firmly aligned with our leaders and fully support the position expressed by our Convener. They have consistently demonstrated exemplary leadership, and we are pleased to organise this exercise in support of their vision as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum,” he added.»
The solidarity trek comes as political activities and mobilisation gradually intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, with various political groups and support organisations across Ogun State beginning to publicly express their preferences and alignments.
The Yayi Progressives Movement said it would continue to mobilise youths and students around its political objectives while encouraging them to participate actively and peacefully in the democratic process.
Global Mirror News gathered that the procession ended without any reported incident, with participants returning after the peaceful march through Abeokuta.
