Why I Want to Return to Ogun Assembly — Biyi Adeleye

For Hon. Adebiyi Adeleye, the decision to seek a return to the Ogun State House of Assembly in 2027 is rooted in what he describes as a desire to deploy the experience he has accumulated across different levels of public service to further represent the people of Remo North.

Adeleye, who is the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Remo North State Constituency in the 2027 House of Assembly election, is no stranger to the legislative chamber. He previously represented the constituency in the Ogun State House of Assembly between 2015 and 2019.

Before and after his legislative tenure, he has remained active in grassroots politics and public administration, including serving as Chairman of Remo North Local Government and, more recently, as Special Adviser to Governor Dapo Abiosdun on Political Matters.

His political career has therefore taken him through the local government, legislative and executive arms of government—an experience he believes gives him a broader understanding of the responsibilities and challenges involved in representing a constituency.

It is against this background that Adeleye says his 2027 bid should be viewed not simply as an attempt to return to the Assembly, but as an opportunity to bring accumulated experience back to the legislative process.

‘I Know What the Job Requires’
Explaining his decision to return to the Assembly, Adeleye is expected to emphasise the value of experience gained from his previous stint as a legislator and his subsequent responsibilities in government.

His argument is that having served previously in the House, occupied the position of local government chairman and worked closely with the executive arm of government as Special Adviser on Political Matters, he has had the opportunity to understand governance from multiple perspectives.

For him, that exposure has provided lessons that could be brought to bear on a fresh legislative mandate.

The argument is also anchored on his familiarity with the constituency.

As a former representative of Remo North, Adeleye has already experienced the demands of constituency representation, including legislative responsibilities, engagement with constituents and interaction with government agencies on issues affecting communities.

His supporters point to this combination of legislative and executive experience as an important part of the profile he brings into the 2027 contest.

Adeleye’s political journey predates his first election to the Ogun Assembly.

Public profiles of the politician record that he served as Chairman of Remo North Local Government in 2011 before subsequently becoming a member of the Ogun State House of Assembly representing Remo North State Constituency from 2015 to 2019. He later served in the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun, including as Special Adviser on Political Matters.

His political experience has also involved periods of intense contestation. In the run-up to the 2023 elections, his candidacy for the Remo North Assembly seat became the subject of litigation. The Court of Appeal sitting in Ibadan affirmed his nomination as the APC candidate after a lower-court decision had earlier gone against him.

That episode became another chapter in his political career and demonstrated the level of political competition surrounding the Remo North constituency.

‘More Dividends for Remo North’
One of the central arguments behind Adeleye’s return bid is the advantage he believes comes with being a returning legislator.

If elected in 2027, he would enter the Assembly as a ranking member rather than as a first-time lawmaker. In legislative practice, returning members generally bring with them institutional familiarity—the knowledge of parliamentary procedures, committee operations, legislative processes and the workings of government.

Adeleye believes this experience can enable him to spend less time learning the mechanics of the institution and more time focusing on issues affecting Remo North.

His position is that the constituency should benefit from having a representative who already understands how the Assembly functions and how legislative representation connects with the executive arm of government.

For Adeleye, however, the ultimate measure of his return would not simply be his presence in the chamber but what his experience can translate into for the constituency.

He believes his political background has equipped him to pursue more effectively the interests of Remo North through legislation, constituency engagement and collaboration with relevant arms and agencies of government.

His stated objective is to use the knowledge acquired from his previous legislative tenure, local government administration and service within the executive branch to seek what he describes as greater dividends of democracy for the people.

This would include stronger representation of constituency interests, advocacy for community development and closer engagement between the people of Remo North and government institutions.

A Constituency He Knows
Another important element of Adeleye’s argument is his long-standing relationship with Remo North.

Having served as local government chairman and previously represented the constituency in the Assembly, he enters the 2027 contest with an established political history in the area.

His supporters have consequently presented his candidacy as one built around familiarity with the constituency and its political landscape.

In May 2026, a Remo North political stakeholder, Hon. Olutayo Oluwadamilare Olamide, publicly expressed support for Adeleye’s candidacy, describing him as a grassroots politician with experience and commitment to the constituency.

The endorsement is one indication of the political conversations already developing around the 2027 Remo North Assembly contest, although the election itself remains ahead.

For the APC candidate, the central message is straightforward: his previous legislative experience, combined with his years in local government administration and executive government, has prepared him for another stint in the Assembly.

He believes that experience can be converted into stronger legislative representation and, ultimately, greater opportunities for the communities that make up Remo North.

Adeleye is presenting his candidacy as a return to a familiar institution, armed with a broader political and administrative experience than he possessed when he first entered the Assembly.

“I have been there before. I have served the people from different positions, and I believe the experience I have gathered has prepared me to serve better,” is the essence of his case for returning to the Ogun State House of Assembly.

And at the heart of his 2027 campaign is his belief that a return as a ranking legislator can provide him with the institutional experience to pursue what he describes as more dividends for Remo North.
