‘The Wait Was Worth It’: 37-Year-Old South African Woman Marries After Years of Sexual Purity

A 37-year-old South African woman, Zukiswa Joyi, has tied the knot after years of openly sharing her journey of sexual purity, describing her marriage as an answered prayer and a testament to her Christian faith.

Joyi got married on Saturday, October 3, 2026, after her traditional lobola ceremony, a customary marriage process involving the presentation of marriage-related gifts or bridewealth, held on March 28.

Following her church wedding, the South African woman took to Facebook to express gratitude to God for giving her the strength to remain committed to her convictions, particularly during moments when the waiting became emotionally challenging.

In a heartfelt message, she declared that the long wait had ultimately been worthwhile, celebrating her new status as a wife and attributing her journey to divine grace.

“Hitched for life. Jesus has done this. Answered Prayer. He truly Honors those who honor him. The wait was all worth it,” she wrote.

Joyi acknowledged that there were moments when she felt weary but said her faith helped her persevere until she reached the milestone she had prayed for.

“I felt weary, but he strengthened me. Got married a virgin at the age of 37, it’s only possible because of the Spirit of God, but it’s possible,” she added.

Using her personal experience to encourage others who share similar religious convictions, Joyi maintained that sexual purity remained possible despite societal pressures and the challenges associated with waiting for marriage.

“Virginity is possible, purity is possible. We don’t have to accept the Lie of the enemy,” she wrote, stressing that the same grace that restores people after they fall can also help others remain committed to their decisions.

She concluded her message by expressing gratitude to God, using the hashtags #OfficiallyMrsJili and #OfficiallyAWife to mark the beginning of her married life.

Global Mirror News reports that Joyi’s story has drawn attention to conversations surrounding faith, personal convictions, sexual abstinence and the different timelines through which people approach relationships and marriage.

Her experience also highlights the personal significance that some Christians attach to waiting until marriage before engaging in sexual relations, particularly when the decision is rooted in religious beliefs and a desire to live according to their faith.

While individual experiences and choices differ, Joyi’s message centres on perseverance, spiritual strength and the fulfilment she says she has found in marrying at 37 after years of upholding her commitment to sexual purity.

Her wedding marks a new chapter in her life, one she has publicly celebrated as an answer to prayer and a reward for a wait she says was worth it.
