RCCG Pastor Dies While Preaching About Death at Funeral

A funeral service in Rivers State turned into a heartbreaking tragedy after a Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Pastor, Deacon Steve Eyo, reportedly collapsed and died while preaching about the certainty of death and the hope beyond it.

Global Mirror News gathered that the incident occurred on Friday, October 2, 2026, in Aleto Community, Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State, leaving mourners, church members and residents in shock over the sudden loss of the cleric.

According to reports, Eyo was officiating at a funeral service where he delivered a sermon titled “The Certainty of Death and Hope Beyond.” In what would become a deeply painful and unforgettable moment, the pastor reportedly collapsed about 15 minutes into his message, shortly after speaking to mourners about the inevitability of death.

Eyewitnesses said the cleric had been explaining that death was unavoidable and could come at any time, regardless of a person’s age or circumstances.

Using a familiar illustration, he reportedly compared life to going to the market, explaining that while some people leave early, others remain until later. In the same way, he said, some people die young while others live to an advanced age.

He reportedly reminded the congregation that nobody could predict when death would come, urging his listeners to recognise the uncertainty of life.

However, as he continued preaching, tragedy struck. The Pastor suddenly slumped, sending his microphone crashing to the floor with a loud sound.

For a brief moment, some of the mourners reportedly thought his sudden fall was part of a dramatic illustration of the message he had been delivering. But the atmosphere quickly changed when it became apparent that the situation was serious.

What had begun as a solemn gathering to bid farewell to a deceased person suddenly became another moment of fear, confusion and desperate prayers as those present struggled to understand what was happening.

Church Ministers and choir members reportedly rushed to the Pastor’s aid, carrying him to the back of the gathering while people gathered around him and prayed for his survival.

Individuals with some medical knowledge also reportedly attempted to administer first aid as efforts were made to save his life.

According to eyewitness accounts, one of those attending to him later observed that he had stopped breathing, heightening concerns about his condition.

In a desperate attempt to get him urgent medical attention, the Pastor was rushed to a nearby hospital in the same ambulance that had been arranged to transport the remains of the person whose funeral brought the congregation together.

Sadly, the trip to the hospital did not end with the hoped-for rescue. The Cleric was reportedly pronounced dead upon arrival, and his body was subsequently taken to the mortuary.

The circumstances surrounding his sudden collapse and death have left mourners and members of the community grappling with the painful irony of an incident that unfolded while he was preaching about mortality.
