Passport Delays: NIS Appeals to Nigerians in UK as Intervention Team Moves In
The Nigeria Immigration Service has called on Nigerians in the United Kingdom who completed their Contactless Passport Applications but are yet to receive their passports to submit their details for urgent resolution.
Global Mirror News gathered that the development comes amid growing concerns over delayed passport processing and renewal among Nigerians living in the UK, with the Immigration Service now taking steps to identify affected applicants and address outstanding cases.
The NIS made the appeal in a statement posted on its official X handle on Sunday, September 6, 2026, directing affected applicants to complete a Contactless Passport Application Resolution Form.
The Service said the measure was aimed at helping it collate complaints and resolve issues surrounding applications that had been completed but whose passports had not yet been delivered.
The NIS stated: “Are you in the United Kingdom and have completed your Contactless Passport Application but yet to receive your passport?
“Kindly submit your details using the form below”.
“The Service values your patience and understanding as we are currently working to resolve all issues.”
According to the resolution form, affected applicants are required to provide important information including their full names, contact details, application numbers, reference numbers and their current location in the United Kingdom.
Applicants are also expected to state whether they sent a self-addressed envelope, alongside their old passports, to the Nigerian High Commission as part of the application process.
They are further required to indicate whether they have tracked their passport applications.
Global Mirror News learnt that the resolution form is accessible through the Immigration Service’s X handle, where affected applicants can obtain the link and submit the required information.
The NIS said complaints submitted through the form would be collated and reviewed three working days after submission, in a move expected to provide authorities with a clearer picture of the number of outstanding applications and the challenges confronting affected Nigerians.
The latest intervention follows the Service’s recent announcement that it would deploy a dedicated passport intervention team to four cities across the United Kingdom to assist Nigerians dealing with new passport applications, renewals and unresolved applications.
The intervention exercise is scheduled to take place in London and Manchester from September 7 to 19, while officials will move to Aberdeen and Cardiff from September 21 to 26.
The Service said the exercise was designed to tackle pending passport applications and provide relief to Nigerians who have experienced difficulties with the passport application and renewal process.
The intervention is expected to give applicants an opportunity to seek clarification and assistance on outstanding cases while immigration officials work to resolve backlogs.
The NIS, however, advised Nigerians seeking new passports or passport renewals to complete their applications and make the required payments through the official NIS Passport Application portal before attending the intervention exercise.
The Service’s latest call for affected Nigerians to submit their details is therefore expected to complement the physical intervention exercise by enabling officials to identify unresolved Contactless Passport Applications and take appropriate steps towards resolving them.
