JAMB, WAEC End Repeated O’Level Verification Charges, Fix N4,000 One-Time Fee
Candidates seeking admission into Nigerian Tertiary Institutions will no longer be required to pay multiple verification fees for their West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) or O’Level results, following a new arrangement announced by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
Under the new arrangement, admission seekers whose admission processes are regulated and coordinated by JAMB are required to pay ₦4,000 only once for the verification of their WASSCE O’Level results.
The two examination bodies made this clarification in a joint statement issued on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, following consultations on the recently introduced WASSCE O’Level Result Verification Service.
Global Mirror News gathered that the new arrangement is aimed at eliminating repeated payments and verification exercises that have placed additional financial and administrative burdens on candidates seeking admission into Universities, Polytechnics, Colleges of Education and other Tertiary Institutions.
Candidates to pay only once
According to JAMB and WAEC, candidates will verify their WAEC results once through the JAMB-provided Verification Service platform.
The bodies stressed that the ₦4,000 fee is payable only once and should be paid through the specified JAMB platform rather than directly to the tertiary Institution where the candidate is seeking admission.
The joint statement clarified that after a candidate successfully completes the verification, the outcome will be made available to the relevant tertiary institution for admission screening, processing and other approved administrative purposes.
The development means that candidates who have successfully completed the verification through JAMB should not be required to repeat the exercise or make another payment to their chosen institutions for verification of the same WASSCE result.
Universities, Polytechnics barred from demanding another verification fee
JAMB and WAEC have directed Tertiary Institutions to utilise the verified results transmitted by JAMB when screening candidates and processing their admissions.
The Institutions are therefore not expected to demand another payment from candidates for verification of the same WASSCE O’Level results.
The clarification is particularly important for candidates who may have been asked in the past to pay separate verification charges during admission screening by different institutions.
Under the new system, the verification carried out through JAMB is intended to serve the relevant admission process without candidates having to repeatedly verify the same result.
WAEC has also authorised JAMB to share the outcome of the verification exercise with relevant tertiary Institutions for admission and related administrative purposes.
Candidates can verify results from home
Another major feature of the new arrangement is that candidates can initiate the verification process remotely.
The recently introduced JAMB Verification Service allows candidates to upload and verify their O’Level results from the comfort of their homes or from any location with internet access.
This is expected to reduce the need for candidates to repeatedly visit JAMB-approved Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres or tertiary institutions solely for the purpose of result verification.
The initiative is also expected to reduce transportation expenses, waiting time and other logistical challenges associated with physical verification.
JAMB had earlier introduced the remote verification arrangement to enable candidates to submit their O’Level results and have them verified directly with the relevant examination bodies.
The process initially includes WAEC results, with the objective of making admission-related services easier, faster, safer and more convenient for candidates.
No repeated verification after successful verification
JAMB and WAEC said candidates who have successfully verified their WASSCE O’Level results through the approved Verification Service platform will not be required to repeat the same verification exercise.
This is expected to particularly benefit candidates applying to multiple tertiary institutions or candidates whose admission processing involves several administrative stages.
Rather than having each institution independently request another verification of the same WAEC result, the verified outcome can be shared with the relevant institution through the JAMB system.
