Gov. Abiodun Rescues Buhari Estate From Forfeiture, Delivers 108 Luxury Homes in Ogun
…First Lady Oluremi Tinubu to Commission Abeokuta Estate Tuesday
Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has saved the President Muhammadu Buhari (PMB) Estate in Abeokuta from possible forfeiture and transformed the long-delayed housing project into a modern 108-unit residential community.
The Estate, strategically located along the Abeokuta-Sagamu Expressway, is scheduled to be formally commissioned on Tuesday by Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
The project, which was inherited by the Abiodun administration in a largely undeveloped State, had faced serious challenges, including a legal dispute arising from outstanding financial obligations to the contractor handling its development.
At the time the current administration assumed office, only the infrastructure had been awarded and a single show building completed, leaving the multi-million-naira project at risk of becoming another abandoned government venture.
The dispute had also created the possibility of the property being subjected to legal action and potentially forfeited.
However, the Abiodun administration intervened, resolved the dispute out of court and commenced payments to safeguard the state’s interest in the property.
Rather than abandon the inherited project, the government subsequently introduced a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement to revive and complete the Estate.
Under the arrangement, the state provided the land and infrastructure, while private developers took responsibility for constructing and marketing the housing units.
That intervention has now culminated in the completion of the PMB Estate, comprising 108 four-bedroom fully detached and semi-detached duplexes built with contemporary architectural designs and supported by modern infrastructure.
Estate Designed as Modern Residential Community
The completed estate boasts a range of facilities aimed at providing residents with comfort, security and a high standard of living.
Among its features are well-constructed internal road networks, street lighting, landscaped green areas, clean water supply, waste management facilities, a sporting centre, children’s playground, clubhouse, 24-hour power supply, adequate parking spaces and security infrastructure within a gated community.
The fully detached duplexes are built on approximately 900 square metres of land and feature four en-suite bedrooms, a boys’ quarters, a master bedroom with closet, spacious living and dining areas, family lounge, study, visitors’ toilet and terrace.
The semi-detached duplexes, covering between 460 and 500 square metres, also provide comparable facilities, with the exception of the study.
The development, according to the state Government, is intended to demonstrate how government-owned land and infrastructure can be leveraged to attract private investment and deliver quality housing without leaving public projects to deteriorate.
Governor Abiodun said the completion of the estate was consistent with his administration’s policy of protecting public assets and ensuring that inherited projects were completed rather than abandoned.
“This project is part of our administration’s commitment to providing quality and affordable housing for different categories of residents, while ensuring that government projects inherited from previous administrations were completed rather than abandoned,” the governor said.
He further described the PMB Estate as a model that could be replicated in other parts of Ogun State through similar public-private housing partnerships.
Strategic Location Boosts Estate’s Appeal
Beyond the quality of its buildings and facilities, the estate enjoys a strategic location opposite the State Judiciary Complex and close to the Ogun TechHub, giving residents convenient access to major government, commercial, technological and transportation corridors.
The Estate is approximately two minutes from the Ogun TechHub, seven minutes from Government House, 12 minutes from the Abeokuta Golf Course and about 15 minutes from the Wole Soyinka Train Station.
Its location also places it roughly 30 minutes from Lagos, further enhancing its appeal to professionals, investors and residents who require easy access between Ogun State and Nigeria’s commercial capital.
The development is already attracting additional private-sector investment, with Access Bank currently developing a training school and other facilities within the estate.
From Abandoned Project to Valuable Public Asset
The commissioning of the PMB Estate is expected to mark the culmination of a recovery process that began with a project facing stagnation, financial complications and possible forfeiture.
Through intervention, settlement of the outstanding dispute and the adoption of a PPP framework, the Ogun State Government has now turned the once-stalled project into a functional residential community with 108 modern housing units.
The development, therefore, goes beyond the delivery of houses. It represents an approach to governance centred on protecting public assets, resolving inherited liabilities, attracting private capital and completing projects capable of generating long-term value for citizens.
For Ogun State, the PMB Estate adds to the administration’s housing and infrastructure portfolio while demonstrating how previously stalled government projects can be recovered and converted into productive assets.
