FCT Police Raid Crime Hotspots, Arrest 300 for Screening, Recover Knives, Toy Gun, Cannabis
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested about 300 persons during a security operation targeting identified crime hotspots, shanties, uncompleted buildings and suspected criminal hideouts across the nation’s capital.
The operation, conducted on Saturday, September 19, 2026, was part of the Command’s ongoing efforts to prevent criminal activities, disrupt the activities of suspected criminals and strengthen security across the Federal Capital Territory.
According to a statement issued on Sunday, September 20, by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the operation covered several locations identified by the police as potential flashpoints for criminal activities.
The raid resulted in the arrest of approximately 300 persons who were taken into custody for screening and profiling.
Items recovered by the police during the operation included knives, a toy gun, cannabis and other suspected illicit drugs.
The Command said the arrested persons are currently undergoing thorough screening and profiling to determine their identities and establish whether any of them has links to criminal activities.
Those found to have committed offences will be charged to court in accordance with the law, while those found to have no case to answer will be released after the completion of the screening process.
Global Mirror News reports that the operation is part of a wider proactive policing strategy aimed at identifying and disrupting locations that could be used as shelters or operational bases by criminals.
The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, PhD, FCAI, reiterated the Command’s determination to sustain intelligence-led raids and proactive policing operations across the territory.
Sanusi particularly directed attention towards areas identified as potential hideouts for criminals, stressing the importance of early intervention in preventing criminal activities and protecting residents.
The Commissioner also warned youths and other residents against the use and abuse of illicit drugs, noting that substance abuse could impair judgment and contribute to violent or criminal behaviour.
He urged individuals struggling with drug use to seek appropriate counselling and rehabilitation support instead of allowing substance abuse to expose them, their families and communities to security risks.
Global Mirror News gathered that the Police leadership also issued a strong warning to officers involved in raids and arrest operations, directing them to conduct themselves professionally and within the provisions of the law.
The Commissioner specifically cautioned police personnel against turning security operations into opportunities for extortion, intimidation, harassment or unlawful demands for money.
He warned that any officer found engaging in such misconduct would face appropriate disciplinary action.
The FCT Police Command further appealed to residents to cooperate with security agencies by providing credible and timely information about suspicious movements, criminal activities and suspected hideouts within their communities.
