Family Tragedy: 19-Year-Old Falls to Death from Cliff After Argument Over Phone, Parents Also Die
A family tragedy has shocked residents of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar in India after a 19-year-old man reportedly fell to his death from a cliff following an argument with his parents over the purchase of a new mobile phone.
In a heartbreaking turn of events, the young man’s parents also lost their lives after following him to Khawadya Hill and attempting to prevent him from jumping.
The incident reportedly occurred at about 10 a.m. on Friday, August 21, 2026, when the teenager, identified as Kunal Chandgude, went to the hill after an argument with his parents concerning payment for a new cellphone he had purchased.
According to reports, Kunal climbed to the edge of the cliff and threatened to jump. His father, 48-year-old Murlidhar Chandgude, and his mother, Sangita, followed him in an apparent attempt to calm him down and stop him from taking the drastic step.
A video recorded at the scene captured the tense and horrifying moments as people gathered nearby and pleaded with the teenager to move away from the dangerous edge.
The footage reportedly showed Sangita slowly moving towards her son while attempting to reach him. However, Kunal warned his mother not to come closer as he remained dangerously close to the edge.
Despite repeated pleas from his parents and others at the scene, the teenager reportedly refused to step away from the cliff.
The situation became even more tragic when his father eventually moved closer and attempted to grab him and pull him back to safety.
However, in the struggle that followed, Kunal reportedly moved backwards and plunged over the cliff, dragging his father with him.
Both father and son were seen falling head-first down the steep cliff before disappearing from view.
In an equally shocking reaction, Sangita reportedly threw herself from the same cliff immediately after witnessing her husband and son fall.
The three members of the family subsequently died in the tragedy.
The incident has left residents and witnesses deeply shaken, particularly because what reportedly began as a disagreement over a mobile phone payment ended in the deaths of an entire family.
The tragedy is also particularly painful for the family because they had reportedly lost their eldest son to illness six years earlier.
The latest incident has therefore left the family facing another devastating loss, with the deaths of Kunal, his father and his mother occurring within moments of one another.
