Atiku Raises Alarm Over ‘Unauthorised’ Credit Into Private Bank Account

globalmirrornews23 hours ago23 hours ago05 mins

Former Vice-President and African Democratic Congress (ADC) Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has raised concerns over what he described as a suspicious and unauthorised payment made into one of his private bank accounts.

Atiku said the unexpected transaction, reportedly labelled “Contribution Electioneering Campaign,” was neither requested nor approved by him or his campaign organisation.

The former Vice-President expressed concern not only over the source and purpose of the payment but also over how an unknown individual or entity obtained the details of a bank account he said was strictly private and not publicly accessible.

In a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku described the development as “deeply troubling,” stressing that the person or entity behind the transaction was completely unknown to him.

According to the statement, neither Atiku nor his campaign solicited, authorised or had prior knowledge of the payment.

The ADC Presidential candidate questioned the circumstances surrounding the apparent exposure of his confidential banking information, asking how an individual unknown to him could have obtained the details of a private account.

Atiku said the incident raises broader concerns about the safety of Nigerians’ financial information, particularly if the banking details of a former Vice-President and presidential candidate could allegedly be accessed without his knowledge or consent.

«“If the private banking information of a former Vice President and a leading presidential candidate can be accessed and deployed for reasons yet unknown, then no Nigerian’s financial privacy is safe,” Atiku said.»

He further warned that if the account information was obtained through privileged access, the situation could have serious security implications for the account holder.

According to him, unauthorised exposure of confidential financial information could potentially put individuals at risk of criminal activities, including kidnapping, terrorism, banditry and fraud.

The former Vice-President also linked the development to what he described as a series of “suspicious activities” emerging as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Atiku, however, maintained that the incident would not derail his political ambition or distract him from his campaign for what he described as credible and effective leadership for Nigeria.

He accused unnamed individuals of resorting to what he called “tired tactics” aimed at character assassination, insisting that such alleged efforts would not deter him.

“As political activities gather momentum, Nigerians should not be distracted by these tired tactics that smack of character assassination,” he said.

“Such desperate antics have failed before and will fail again. The Waziri Adamawa remains focused on offering Nigerians credible leadership and practical solutions to the nation’s challenges.”

The development comes as political activities gradually intensify ahead of the 2027 elections, with parties and major political figures already positioning themselves for the contest.

Atiku’s allegation also brings renewed attention to the protection of customers’ confidential banking information and the responsibility of financial institutions and other stakeholders to safeguard sensitive financial data.

For now, the former Vice-President has raised questions over the source of the payment and the alleged access to his private account details, but the identity, motive and circumstances surrounding the transaction remain unclear from the statement.

Global Mirror News will continue to monitor developments surrounding the alleged unauthorised payment and any response from relevant financial or regulatory authorities.
