Agbal’etu Association Honours Ogun Commissioner Balogun for Leadership Excellence, Community Impact
The Agbal’etu Association has honoured the Ogun State Commissioner for Community Development and Cooperatives, Hon. Ademola Olasunkanmi Balogun, with an Award of Excellence in recognition of his exemplary leadership, commitment to grassroots development and significant contributions to Community empowerment across the State.
The Award was presented to the Commissioner during the Association’s Annual Basic Training Programme held at the Social Development Institute, Shasha, Iperu-Remo, as part of activities marking the first anniversary of the formal establishment of the Association.
The recognition, according to the leadership of Agbal’etu Association, was a demonstration of appreciation for Balogun’s guidance, support and efforts towards strengthening Community Development initiatives, particularly the visible Administrative and structural improvements recorded at the Social Development Institute under his stewardship.
Presenting the Award, Chairman of Agbal’etu Association, Prince Dr. Adebayo Adeboboye, described the Commissioner as a leader whose interventions had continued to make a positive difference in the development of communities and institutions under his Ministry.
Adeboboye said the honour was not merely ceremonial but a reflection of the Association’s appreciation for the Commissioner’s contribution to the growth of the Social Development Institute and his encouragement of Community leaders to become active participants in the development process.
He expressed confidence that the partnership between Government Institutions and organised Community groups would produce even greater results in the years ahead.
According to him, Agbal’etu Association was conceived following a four-day Advance Citizenship and Leadership Training Course for Community Leaders in Ogun State, organised at the Social Development Institute, Shasha, Iperu-Remo, in 2025.
He explained that participants at the training recognised the need for Community leaders to move beyond discussions and take practical steps towards improving their immediate environments.
The Association was subsequently inaugurated and endorsed on July 4, 2025, under the supervision and leadership of the Ogun State Commissioner for Community Development and Cooperatives, Hon. Ademola Olasunkanmi Balogun.
With a constitution and functional executive structure in place, the Association has since continued to promote Community-driven development initiatives, with particular attention to the Welfare and Development of the Social Development Institute, Shasha.
The Chairman explained that Agbal’etu Association was established as a strictly non-political, non-religious and non-profit-making organisation, created to mobilise Community members towards unity, responsible citizenship and sustainable grassroots development.
The Association operates under the motto, “ÌDÀGBÀS’ÓKÈ ÌLÚ WA L’OJEWALOGUN!”, which reflects its commitment to collective responsibility and the advancement of Communities through active participation and self-help initiatives.
Adeboboye stressed that the development of Communities should not be left entirely to Government, arguing that residents and Community leaders have important roles to play in identifying challenges and contributing solutions.
He said the emergence of Agbal’etu was therefore a deliberate attempt to encourage Community ownership, volunteerism and responsible citizenship, while complementing Government’s development efforts.
He noted that when citizens take ownership of their immediate environment, Government interventions become more effective and sustainable.
According to him, the Association is willing to mobilise its members, skills and resources towards addressing identified community needs, particularly in areas where collective action can make a measurable difference.
“Community development is our priority,” the association maintained, stressing that its members were prepared to participate voluntarily in programmes and activities that would improve the lives of residents and contribute to the development of the Social Development Institute.
Agbal’etu’s Mission
The Association’s objectives extend beyond physical development projects, as it seeks to build a culture of unity, discipline, integrity and responsible citizenship among members and residents.
Among its stated objectives are the promotion of unity, love and cooperation among members and the wider Community; fostering the social, cultural and economic development of its members; and upholding discipline, respect for elders and good moral conduct.
The group also seeks to contribute positively to community development and progress while encouraging members to participate voluntarily in development activities at the Social Development Institute, Shasha.
The Association’s leadership believes that these objectives will help strengthen the relationship between community members, government institutions and other stakeholders involved in grassroots development.
Patron Commends Community Spirit
The Patron of Agbal’etu Association, Otunba Ekundayo Olukayode, JP, also underscored the importance of the Association’s emergence, describing it as an avenue through which citizens could channel their energy, experience and resources into meaningful community development.
He emphasised the importance of sustaining the spirit of volunteerism and collective responsibility that inspired the formation of the organisation.
The Association’s activities, he noted, represent a practical demonstration that community development is a shared responsibility involving Government, traditional institutions, Community leaders and residents.
A Partnership for Grassroots Development
The recognition of Commissioner Balogun also highlights the growing importance of collaboration between Government and community-based organisations in advancing grassroots development.
For Agbal’etu Association, the award is both a celebration of the Commissioner’s contributions and a reaffirmation of the group’s determination to work alongside relevant government agencies in promoting sustainable development.
The Association has pledged to remain committed to its founding principles and to continue supporting initiatives that promote the growth and functionality of the Social Development Institute, Shasha, as well as other community development efforts.
As Agbal’etu Association marks its first anniversary, its leadership says the journey ahead will be defined by greater volunteerism, Community service, unity and practical development initiatives.
The group reiterated that its emergence was not driven by political, religious or personal interests, but by a desire to encourage citizens to become active stakeholders in the development of their communities.
With its constitution, executive structure and clearly defined objectives already established, the Association is positioning itself as a platform through which Community leaders and residents can transform the principle of self-help into tangible development.
For the members of Agbal’etu Association, the honour bestowed on Hon. Ademola Balogun is therefore not only a recognition of past efforts, but also a call for continued partnership, stronger Community engagement and greater commitment to the development of Ogun State from the grassroots.
