Woman Accused of Torturing Underage Househelp With Hot Object

A disturbing case of alleged child abuse, assault and exploitation has surfaced in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, after a woman was accused of subjecting her underage househelp to physical torture and harsh treatment.

Global Mirror News gathered that the alleged incident occurred on Friday, August 14, 2026, in the Old GRA area of Makurdi, reportedly around the vicinity of Behind Total filling station.

The allegation was made public by Benue-based activist, Zege Orkwande, who shared details of the incident in a Facebook post that has since generated concern over the welfare and safety of vulnerable children employed as domestic helpers.

According to Orkwande, the minor, who was reportedly brought from a village to work as a helper in the woman’s home, was allegedly subjected to physical abuse and what he described as hard labour and slavery.

The activist further alleged that the child was tortured with a hot object, an act that, if established, could amount to serious physical abuse and a grave violation of the child’s rights.

Global Mirror News understands that the allegations have not yet been independently verified, and the identity of the woman involved was not disclosed in the post. The circumstances surrounding the alleged abuse, including the child’s age, the extent of the injuries and whether medical attention was provided, were also not immediately clear.

Orkwande, however, expressed outrage over the alleged treatment of the minor and called on the woman involved to report herself to a Police station under the Benue State Police Command.

In his post, the activist gave the woman a 12-hour window to take what he described as the “respectful” step of presenting herself to the authorities, warning that failure to do so would lead to the matter being exposed publicly and pursued through the appropriate legal process.

The allegation has once again drawn attention to the vulnerability of children employed as domestic workers, particularly those brought from rural communities to work in urban households where they may have limited access to family support or mechanisms for reporting mistreatment.

Global Mirror News reports that cases involving alleged child labour, domestic servitude, physical assault and other forms of abuse require prompt investigation by the appropriate authorities, especially where a minor is involved.

Beyond establishing the facts of this particular case, child protection advocates are expected to continue pressing for stronger enforcement of laws safeguarding children from exploitation, violence and degrading treatment.

If the allegations are substantiated, the appropriate authorities would be expected to ensure that the child receives necessary medical, psychological and protective support while determining whether criminal or other legal action should be taken against those responsible.

For now, attention remains focused on the alleged victim’s safety and wellbeing, as calls grow for the Benue State Police Command and relevant child-protection authorities to investigate the matter thoroughly and establish the facts.
