WAFCON 2026: Super Falcons Get $60,000 Bonus After 6

Nigeria’s Super Falcons have received a major financial boost after the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) approved a $60,000 goal bonus following their emphatic 6–2 victory over Egypt at the ongoing 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

Global Mirror News gathered that the incentive followed the Falcons’ impressive attacking display against the Egyptian National team, popularly known as the Cleopatras, in a match that underlined Nigeria’s determination to retain the continental crown.

The Super Falcons had initially been promised $5,000 for every goal scored by the National Sports Commission (NSC) ahead of their opening WAFCON fixture against Malawi.

However, following the team’s impressive performance, the President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Shehu Gusau, announced an upward review of the incentive.

Under the revised arrangement, each goal scored by the Super Falcons will now attract $10,000, effectively doubling the earlier bonus.

The six goals scored against Egypt therefore translated into a total goal-scoring reward of $60,000 for the team.

Global Mirror News reports that the decision is expected to further lift the morale of the players as they prepare for a crucial quarter-final encounter against the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon.

Nigeria and Cameroon are scheduled to meet in Casablanca on Sunday, with a place in the WAFCON semi-finals at stake.

The quarter-final clash carries additional importance because the winner will also secure qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil, adding another layer of significance to the encounter.

The Super Falcons, who are the reigning African champions, have continued their campaign in Morocco with the objective of successfully defending their continental title.

Nigeria’s latest success comes after the team’s historic triumph at the previous WAFCON, where the Falcons secured their record-extending 10th African women’s title after defeating hosts Morocco 3–2 in the final in July 2025.

The latest financial incentive also comes against the backdrop of broader rewards for the Falcons following their previous continental success.

Global Mirror News gathered that members of the 2025 WAFCON-winning squad have also received major rewards promised by the Federal Government, including $100,000 cash gifts for each player and three-bedroom apartments under the Renewed Hope Housing Estate programme.

With the Cameroon quarter-final now looming, the enhanced goal bonus is being viewed as another motivation for the Falcons to maintain their attacking momentum and continue their quest for another African championship.

The Super Falcons will, however, need to overcome a determined Cameroonian side if they are to progress to the last four and move closer to another WAFCON title.
