Ogun Police To Arraign Three Over Alleged Assault, Obstruction Of Officers In Ago-Iwoye

The Ogun State Police Command has announced plans to arraign three suspects before the Ago-Iwoye Magistrate Court over alleged obstruction and assault of Police Officers performing their lawful duties.

The suspects, identified as Alaba Mulika, 51; Alawode Iyanu, 21; and Temitope Saliu, 29, are expected to face five counts bordering on conspiracy, obstruction of Police Officers, alleged serious assault and conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace.

Global Mirror News gathered that the incident occurred on September 29, 2026, when a Police team led by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Akeredolu Emmanuel intercepted an unregistered Toyota Camry along Fibigbade Street, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State.

According to the Police, the situation escalated while Officers were conveying the intercepted vehicle to the Police station. A Toyota Highlander with registration number JJJ 215 JV allegedly blocked the team’s movement at Abobi Street, leading to a physical confrontation.

During the confrontation, two Police personnel, Inspector Abolarinwa Wasiu and Corporal Olubamiro Adeniyi, were allegedly assaulted.

The incident subsequently attracted public attention after video recordings of the confrontation circulated on social media, prompting further scrutiny of the circumstances surrounding the encounter.

In a statement issued on Friday, October 2, 2026, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Command, Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, had ordered an investigation into the incident.

The directive led detectives to investigate the circumstances surrounding the confrontation, visit the scene and arrest the three suspects.

The Police said the investigation had been concluded and that the suspects would be charged before the appropriate court to answer the allegations against them.

The planned arraignment is expected to provide an opportunity for the allegations to be examined through the judicial process. The suspects’ guilt or innocence will ultimately be determined by the court, and the allegations against them should not be treated as established facts before a judicial determination.

Police warn against physical confrontation

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police reiterated the Command’s commitment to protecting officers carrying out their lawful responsibilities.

He stressed that the safety and protection of Police personnel performing their duties remained a priority for the Command.

The Police Chief also urged members of the public to channel grievances and complaints through established legal and administrative procedures rather than resorting to physical confrontation with Officers.

The Command’s position underscores the importance of maintaining public order while ensuring that interactions between law enforcement personnel and citizens remain within the bounds of the law.

Global Mirror News reports that the case comes amid renewed public attention to incidents involving Police Officers and members of the public, particularly where video footage circulating on social media raises questions about the conduct of those involved.

As the suspects prepare to appear before the Ago-Iwoye Magistrate Court, the proceedings will be crucial in establishing the facts of the case and determining the appropriate legal consequences, if the allegations are proved.
