Ogun LG Workers Set for Recognition as Commission Unveils 2026 Service Week

Dr Bayo Ilawole to Deliver Public Lecture as Dedicated Public Servants Take Centre Stage at Awards, Gala Night

The Ogun State Local Government Service Commission has unveiled plans for the 2026 Local Government Service Week, an initiative designed to celebrate dedicated public servants, promote professionalism and strengthen service delivery at the grassroots.

The two-day programme, scheduled for Wednesday, November 11, and Thursday, November 12, 2026, will be held under the theme, “From Experience to Excellence: Strengthening Service Delivery at the Grassroots.”

For workers who have spent years serving communities, often behind the scenes, the programme offers an opportunity to recognise dedication, commitment and the contributions of personnel whose daily responsibilities help keep Local Government administration running.

Global Mirror News reports that the event will feature a public lecture on the first day, followed by a red carpet ceremony, Award of Excellence and Gala Night on the second day, bringing together public servants, government officials and other stakeholders to celebrate achievements and discuss ways to improve grassroots governance.

The Commission has announced Dr. Bayo Ilawole, Permanent Secretary of the Ondo State Local Government Service Commission, as the guest lecturer for the opening day.

The public lecture will hold at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 11, at The Crescent Muslim Professional Hall, Leme, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Dr. Ilawole is expected to share his professional experience and insights on effective Local Government administration, institutional development and improved public service delivery.

The lecture will also provide a platform for participants to examine how years of experience, accumulated knowledge and professional competence can be transformed into better performance and more responsive services for residents.

For Local Government workers, the theme highlights the importance of continuous learning, improved work standards and the ability to translate experience into practical results. It also draws attention to the human contribution behind public administration, where the commitment of individual workers can make a difference in the delivery of essential services to communities.

According to details made available to Global Mirror News, the second day of the programme will feature a red carpet ceremony beginning at 12 noon on Thursday, November 12, at DLK Events Center, Abiola Way, Abeokuta. The Award of Excellence and Gala Night are scheduled to commence at 2:00 p.m. at the same venue.

The awards are expected to recognise outstanding contributions to public service, celebrating individuals whose dedication, discipline, professionalism and commitment have supported the effective administration of local governments.

For deserving workers, such recognition can serve as an important motivation, reinforcing the value of diligence and encouraging others to approach their responsibilities with renewed commitment. The ceremony is also expected to promote a culture in which excellence, integrity and accountability remain central to public service.

Beyond the glamour of the red carpet and the celebration of award recipients, the Gala Night will provide an opportunity for workers, administrators and other stakeholders to interact, strengthen professional relationships and reflect on the achievements of the Local Government Service.

Global Mirror News notes that Local Government employees occupy a critical position in the public service system because their responsibilities often bring them into direct contact with residents and communities. From administrative duties to the implementation of Government policies and the provision of essential services, their work contributes to the day-to-day functioning of grassroots governance.

The effectiveness of Local Government administration therefore depends not only on Government policies and funding but also on the competence, welfare, motivation and commitment of the personnel responsible for implementing them.

The annual service week provides an opportunity to reflect on these responsibilities, identify areas requiring improvement and encourage practices that promote efficiency, transparency and accountability. It also offers stakeholders a platform to consider how institutional knowledge can be preserved and transferred to younger personnel while creating opportunities for professional growth.

As the tier of Government closest to the people, Local Government remains central to community development and the delivery of services that directly affect residents’ daily lives. Strengthening its workforce is therefore an important part of building a more responsive and effective public administration.

Global Mirror News reports that the 2026 Service Week is expected to attract government officials, public and civil servants, serving and retired Local Government administrators, Heads of Ministries, Departments and Agencies, Traditional Rulers, Political office holders, labour union representatives, professional bodies, community leaders and other stakeholders from Ogun State and beyond.

The programme is expected to reinforce the message that improving grassroots governance requires more than institutional policies; it also demands motivated workers, professional development, recognition of outstanding performance and a shared commitment to serving the public.

The press release was signed by Olopade Sakiru, Chairman of the LG Service Week Media Team.
