Gov. Abiodun Targets 50,000 Jobs, Approves J4-Gao Road As Ogun Deep Sea Port Groundbreaking Holds In November

…LNG Project, Coastal Highway Bridge To Position Ogun Waterside As Nigeria’s Emerging Energy And Maritime Hub
Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has approved the construction of the J4-Gao Road in Ogun Waterside Local Government Area and announced that the groundbreaking ceremony for the proposed Gateway Deep Sea Port is scheduled for November 2026, in a move aimed at accelerating economic development and attracting large-scale investments to the coastal area.
The Governor also disclosed that the Federal Government had approved the construction of a four-kilometre bridge to connect Ogun Waterside to the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, describing the proposed infrastructure as critical to improving access to the area and supporting the take-off of major industrial projects.
Abiodun made the announcements on Wednesday during an All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders’ engagement meeting held in Ibiade, the headquarters of Ogun Waterside Local Government Area.
The planned road, bridge, Deep Sea Port and Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) project are expected to transform the economic outlook of Ogun Waterside, with the governor projecting that the strategic investments could generate more than 50,000 direct employment opportunities.
Global Mirror News reports that the announcements come amid renewed efforts by the Ogun State Government to unlock the economic potential of the coastal communities through infrastructure development, industrial expansion and investment-friendly policies.
For residents of Ogun Waterside, the proposed projects represent an opportunity to address longstanding infrastructure challenges, create jobs for young people and stimulate commercial activities across the area.
Abiodun Approves J4-Gao Road To Open Up Coastal Communities
Speaking at the stakeholders’ meeting, Abiodun said the approval of the J4-Gao Road was informed by the strategic importance of Ogun Waterside to the State’s emerging economic and industrial landscape.
He lamented the prolonged neglect of the area by successive administrations, noting that improved road infrastructure was essential to opening up the local government and making it more accessible to investors.
According to the Governor, the road project would complement other planned infrastructure interventions designed to support the development of the Gateway Deep Sea Port and the LNG project.
He explained that the proposed infrastructure would improve transportation, facilitate the movement of goods and services and provide better access to communities expected to benefit from the emerging industrial investments.
The Governor also said the Federal Government’s approval of the four-kilometre bridge linking Ogun Waterside to the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway would further strengthen the area’s connectivity.
The bridge is expected to provide an important link between the coastal Local Government and the wider regional transportation network, potentially reducing the difficulties associated with moving people, equipment and commercial goods into the area.
For farmers, traders, transport operators and small-business owners, improved connectivity could help reduce transportation challenges, expand access to markets and create new opportunities for commercial activities.
However, the full benefits will depend on the timely delivery of the projects and the development of supporting infrastructure to connect surrounding communities to the emerging economic corridor.
Deep Sea Port Groundbreaking Scheduled For November
Abiodun announced that the groundbreaking ceremony for the Gateway Deep Sea Port had been scheduled for November 2026, with construction expected to commence before the end of the year.
He said the project was expected to be completed by 2030, describing it as a major investment that would strengthen Ogun State’s position in maritime operations, energy, logistics and international trade.
The Governor expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for supporting the development of the Deep Sea Port and other strategic projects planned for the area.
He maintained that the port would position Ogun State as a major energy, maritime and international trade hub, while complementing the state’s existing industrial base.
Abiodun explained that the project represented the culmination of sustained efforts by his administration to create an enabling environment for large-scale investments.
According to him, the State Government has continued to pursue infrastructure projects and policies aimed at making Ogun more attractive to Local and International investors.
The proposed port is expected to strengthen the state’s economic relationship with the Lagos-Ogun industrial corridor and create additional opportunities for businesses involved in shipping, cargo handling, warehousing, transportation and related services.
Global Mirror News reports that the proposed Deep Sea Port and LNG investment are central to the state Government’s ambition to expand economic activities beyond existing industrial centres and unlock the commercial potential of Ogun Waterside.
The success of the projects, however, will depend on effective implementation, adequate supporting infrastructure and the ability to attract sustained private-sector investment.
LNG Project, Port Expected To Create Over 50,000 Jobs
One of the major expectations surrounding the proposed investments is their potential to create employment opportunities for residents, particularly young people.
Abiodun projected that the strategic investments planned for Ogun Waterside could generate more than 50,000 direct jobs, alongside additional opportunities across several supporting industries.
He listed logistics, transportation, construction, hospitality, manufacturing and other service-related sectors among those expected to benefit from the projects.
The Governor urged young people in the area to begin preparing for the anticipated opportunities by acquiring relevant technical skills, professional qualifications and vocational competencies.
“These projects will change the economic fortunes of Ogun Waterside. Our young people must begin to prepare themselves now to take advantage of the opportunities that will come with these investments,” he said.
The Governor’s appeal highlights the importance of preparing the local workforce for the demands of port operations, energy infrastructure, engineering, construction, logistics and other specialised fields.
For young people struggling to secure employment, the proposed investments could offer new career pathways if recruitment and skills-development programmes are designed to give qualified residents a fair opportunity.
The projects could also benefit artisans, mechanics, electricians, welders, drivers, food vendors, hospitality operators, building-material suppliers and small-business owners who may provide goods and services to companies operating within the emerging industrial zone.
Nevertheless, the projected employment figure remains an expectation associated with the planned investments. The actual number of jobs created will depend on the scale of development, the projects’ operational requirements and the pace at which the investments become fully functional.
To ensure that residents benefit meaningfully, deliberate efforts may be needed to provide vocational training, support local enterprises and connect qualified job seekers to prospective employers.
Abiodun Says Investments Will Strengthen Ogun’s Industrial Status
The Governor said the development of the Deep Sea Port would complement Ogun State’s growing industrial base and strategic location within the Lagos-Ogun economic corridor.
He described the state as well positioned to benefit from expanding commercial activities because of its existing industrial presence and proximity to major economic centres.
According to him, the planned investments would further strengthen Ogun’s reputation as Nigeria’s industrial capital while expanding its role in maritime trade, energy and logistics.
Abiodun stressed that Ogun Waterside was strategically important to the state and should be positioned to benefit from the economic opportunities associated with its coastal location.
The planned combination of improved roads, a bridge connection, port facilities and LNG infrastructure could encourage businesses to establish operations in the area, subject to the availability of supporting facilities, skilled labour and a suitable investment environment.
For communities in Ogun Waterside, the anticipated transformation could extend beyond employment to include increased demand for housing, accommodation, transportation, retail services and other essential businesses.
However, residents will be looking for clear evidence of implementation as the Government moves towards the proposed November groundbreaking and the anticipated commencement of construction before the end of 2026.
Governor Woos Ogun Waterside Residents Ahead Of 2027 Elections
Beyond infrastructure and economic development, Abiodun used the APC stakeholders’ meeting to call for unity among party members and residents of Ogun Waterside ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The Governor noted that the local Government has 126 polling units and approximately 62,000 registered voters, describing the area as politically important to the State.
He urged APC members to sustain their support for the party and intensify mobilisation ahead of the elections.
Abiodun called on voters to support APC candidates across the ballot, from the presidential election to the State House of Assembly, arguing that continued political stability would help consolidate development initiatives at both State and Federal levels.
He assured the people that sustained support for the party would strengthen the prospects for continued development and effective representation.
The appeal places the administration’s infrastructure and investment agenda within the broader political discussions expected to shape the 2027 elections, when residents will have an opportunity to assess the promises and performance of political parties.
For Ogun Waterside residents, the delivery of the proposed projects and the extent to which they improve livelihoods are likely to remain important considerations in evaluating the administration’s development agenda.
Mustapha Urges Residents To Protect Development Gains
Speaking at the event, the APC Presidential and Governorship Campaign Director-General, Senator Lekan Mustapha, urged residents to protect what he described as the development gains recorded under the APC-led Government.
Mustapha cautioned against political decisions that could jeopardise the ongoing transformation of the area, calling on residents to remain committed to the party and its candidates in the 2027 elections.
He urged the people to support the continuation of the administration’s development initiatives, particularly those expected to improve infrastructure and create economic opportunities across Ogun Waterside.
His remarks reinforced the governor’s appeal for political unity and sustained support for the APC ahead of the next general elections.
Awonusi Commends Abiodun’s Development Efforts
Also speaking, a former Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Segun Awonusi, commended Abiodun for what he described as his contributions to the development taking place in Ogun Waterside.
Awonusi expressed confidence that the people of the area would reciprocate the administration’s interventions by giving the APC substantial support in the 2027 elections.
He praised the Governor’s focus on the area’s development and expressed optimism about the potential impact of the planned investments on residents.
Ogun Waterside Awaits Economic Transformation
The approval of the J4-Gao Road, the proposed four-kilometre bridge and the planned Gateway Deep Sea Port have raised expectations about the future of Ogun Waterside.
For communities that the Governor says have endured years of neglect, the projects offer the prospect of improved connectivity, increased commercial activities and greater access to employment opportunities.
The planned LNG project adds another dimension to the investment agenda, with the potential to strengthen the area’s position in the energy sector and attract businesses that depend on reliable transportation and industrial infrastructure.
Yet, the ultimate test will be the delivery of the promised projects, the transparency of implementation and the extent to which the benefits reach ordinary residents.
As the State approaches the proposed November 2026 groundbreaking, young people, local entrepreneurs and community stakeholders will be watching to see whether the anticipated investments translate into jobs, improved livelihoods and lasting economic development.
If successfully implemented, the projects could reshape Ogun Waterside’s economic prospects, strengthen Ogun State’s industrial base and enhance its role in Nigeria’s maritime, energy and international trade sectors.
