Engr. Odunlami Emerges APBN Assistant Secretary General as Professional Bodies Chart New Course for Nigeria
The Association of Professional Bodies of Nigeria (APBN) has elected Engr. Babatunde Adeyemi Odunlami, FNSE, as its new Assistant Secretary General, at the Association’s 42nd Annual General Assembly held in Abuja.
The election, which brought together representatives and prominent members of professional bodies from across Nigeria, also produced Prof. Muhammad Akaro Mainoma, mni, as the new President of the APBN.
The Annual General Assembly was held at the National Engineering Centre, Abuja, providing a platform for professional bodies to assess developments within the professional community, deliberate on issues affecting professionals and strengthen collaboration towards National development.
Odunlami, who is the Director of Professional Development at the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), is expected to bring his experience in professional development and engineering administration to his new responsibility within the umbrella body of professional associations in Nigeria.
His emergence has also been welcomed within the engineering community, with members describing the appointment as an opportunity for him to contribute further to the promotion of professionalism and stronger cooperation among Nigeria’s professional bodies.
The President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Engr. Ali Alimasuya Rabiu, FNSE, F.ASCE, FAEng, MFR, was among senior members of the Society who attended the assembly.
The presence of the NSE leadership underscored the important role of the engineering profession within the broader professional community and the need for greater collaboration among professional associations in addressing national challenges.
The APBN serves as an umbrella platform for professional bodies in Nigeria, providing a forum through which professionals can engage on matters relating to professional standards, development, regulation, national policy and the contribution of expertise to the growth of the country.
The 42nd Annual General Assembly therefore provided an opportunity for participating bodies to exchange views on issues affecting their respective professions while considering ways professionals can contribute more effectively to Nigeria’s socio-economic development.
NSE Celebrates Odunlami
Following his election, the Chairman of the NSE Branch Chairmen Forum and Convener of Engineering of Impact (EOI), Engr. Olumayowa Ayodeji Idowu, FNSE, congratulated Odunlami on his emergence as Assistant Secretary General of the APBN.
Idowu described the development as a well-deserved recognition of Odunlami’s contributions and an opportunity for him to further serve the professional community.
According to him, the new APBN responsibility would provide Odunlami with another platform to contribute to the advancement of professionalism and promote stronger collaboration among professional bodies across Nigeria.
He also expressed confidence that Odunlami’s tenure would help strengthen the relationship between the Nigerian Society of Engineers and the wider professional community.
“Once again, hearty congratulations, sir,” Idowu said in his congratulatory message.
With the emergence of a new leadership at the APBN, expectations are high that the association will continue to provide a strong platform for professional bodies to engage government and other stakeholders on issues concerning professional practice and national development.
For Engr. Odunlami, the new responsibility adds another dimension to his professional service and places him in a position to contribute to conversations involving the collective interests of Nigeria’s professional community.
