Roads, Bridge, Boreholes: Abeokuta South Residents Get Fresh Relief as Gov. Abiodun Commends Hon. Balogun

The projects, executed under the leadership of the Executive Chairman of Abeokuta South Local Government, Hon. Olaniyi Afeez Balogun, (BOA) include the rehabilitation and resurfacing of a 1.10-kilometre road, rehabilitation of the Isale Oja-Kuto Bridge, construction of a steel pedestrian bridge and retaining wall at Kugba/Saje, as well as the provision of solar-powered boreholes.
The projects were commissioned on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at Kuto Market Junction, Abeokuta, with the Ogun State Government commending the Council administration for embarking on infrastructure interventions aimed at improving the daily lives of residents.
Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, was represented at the commissioning ceremony by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Ganiyu Oladunjoye Hamzat.
For residents and business owners around Kuto, Isale Oja, Kugba and Saje, the projects go beyond roads, bridges and boreholes. They touch directly on the everyday challenges of moving from one place to another, getting goods to market, crossing roads safely and accessing water.
Global Mirror News reports that the road intervention covers the route from Dental Centre Junction through Nawa-Ud-Deen to Kuto Market, one of the busy corridors serving residents, traders, customers and commuters in the area.

For traders at Kuto Market, improved road access is expected to make it easier for customers to reach their businesses and for traders to move goods in and out of the market.

At Kugba/Saje in Ward 4, the council constructed a steel pedestrian bridge with a retaining wall, providing residents with a dedicated crossing point.
The pedestrian facility is particularly significant for people who regularly cross the area on foot, as the intervention is expected to provide safer and easier passage.
Gov. Abiodun Commends Balogun
Speaking during the commissioning, Hamzat commended Balogun for what he described as development-oriented projects that respond to the needs of residents.
“It is a great pleasure and joy that I witness today’s programme, which is the commissioning of projects executed under the Hon. Olaniyi Afeez Balogun-led administration,” Hamzat said.
The Commissioner said the road and other infrastructure would make movement easier for residents, traders and other road users.
“I want to commend him for embarking on this kind of project. This will help to provide greater ease of movement for residents, traders and other road users,” he added.
Hamzat also praised the Chairman and Councillors for what he described as prudent use of resources, urging the administration to sustain its development efforts.
“I have commissioned projects in other Local Governments, but I want to say that Abeokuta South is different. I want to urge him to continue providing dividends of democracy to his people,” the Commissioner said.
He also acknowledged Governor Abiodun for giving the 20 Local Government Chairmen across Ogun State the opportunity to serve their respective communities.
The Commissioner further affirmed the State Government’s commitment to supporting Local Government development and projects capable of improving the welfare of residents at the grassroots.
Balogun: Projects Driven by Residents’ Needs
In his welcome address, Balogun expressed appreciation to residents, political leaders, Government officials and other stakeholders in Abeokuta South for their support and cooperation.
The Council Chairman explained that his administration had, from inception, concentrated on translating its governance agenda into practical projects capable of addressing the needs of residents.
According to him, the latest commissioning marked the second phase of the Council’s project commissioning programme, with more interventions already being implemented across the Local Government.
Balogun disclosed that additional solar-powered boreholes and healthcare centres were currently under construction in various communities, indicating that the administration’s infrastructure drive extends beyond the projects commissioned at Kuto.

Jamiu Ogundairo; former Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Titi Oseni; APC Chairman in Abeokuta South Local Government, Hon. Henry Fagbenro; and the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Health, Hon. Ololade Kehinde.
Also in attendance was the former Caretaker Chairman of the Council, Hon. Ayomide Somide, alongside the Secretary of the Local Government, Hon. Mustapha Kodaolu Olajide (MKO).
The Head of Local Government Administration, Mrs. Funmi Shoberu; Councillors; Supervisors; Consultants; Special Advisers and Assistants to the Chairman; and other Senior officials of the Council also attended the event.

The commissioning comes as the Balogun-led administration continues its development programme across Abeokuta South, with the Chairman promising that more projects would be delivered across the Local Government.
