Ogun Police Nab Two Suspected ‘One-Chance’ Robbers After High-Speed Chase in Abeokuta

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested two suspected members of a notorious “one-chance” robbery syndicate allegedly operating within the Abeokuta metropolis, following an intelligence-led operation that culminated in a high-speed chase and the interception of their vehicle.

Global Mirror News gathered that the suspects, identified as 29-year-old Bidemi Tijani and 42-year-old Olajide Rasaq, were arrested on Saturday, August 15, 2026, by operatives of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU).

The development was disclosed on Tuesday, August 18, by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, in a statement issued to Journalists.

According to the Police, the operation followed actionable intelligence received by the Command concerning members of a suspected “one-chance” syndicate who allegedly disguise themselves as commercial taxi operators to prey on unsuspecting passengers.

Global Mirror News reports that “one-chance” robbery typically involves criminals posing as legitimate commercial transport operators or passengers before luring victims into vehicles, where they are allegedly dispossessed of cash, mobile phones and other valuables.

The Police said the suspects were sighted inside a taxi heading towards the Ita-Oshin area of Abeokuta after operatives received the intelligence.

Rather than allowing the vehicle to escape, tactical personnel attached to the VCRU reportedly moved in and gave the suspects a hot chase.

The pursuit eventually ended with the Police successfully intercepting the vehicle around the Ita-Oshin axis, leading to the arrest of the two suspects.

The Command said preliminary interrogation was conducted after the arrests, adding that statements were subsequently obtained from the suspects under caution.

Police authorities further stated that the suspects allegedly confessed to being active members of the “one-chance” robbery syndicate reportedly terrorising commuters within Abeokuta.

The Command, however, is continuing its investigation to determine the full extent of the syndicate’s activities, identify other members and recover relevant exhibits that may assist the investigation.

Global Mirror News gathered that other suspected members of the group are still being pursued, as the Police intensify efforts to dismantle the network completely.

The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the VCRU operatives for what he described as their swift response, operational vigilance and tactical professionalism.

Ojajuni reiterated the Command’s determination to confront violent crime and other criminal activities across Ogun State, warning that the state would not provide a safe haven for criminal elements.

The Commissioner also called on residents, particularly commuters, to remain vigilant and exercise caution when boarding commercial vehicles, especially when circumstances surrounding the vehicle or its occupants appear suspicious.

He urged members of the public to promptly report suspicious individuals, vehicles or criminal activities to the appropriate security authorities.

The Ogun Police Command provided the following channels for emergency reports: Gateway Shield toll-free line: 0800 000 9111, as well as 09164859299 and 09154293464.

As the investigation continues, the arrest of the two suspects is expected to provide the police with useful leads that could help expose other members of the alleged syndicate and shed more light on reported “one-chance” robbery activities within Abeokuta.

The Ogun State Police Command has maintained that sustained intelligence gathering, rapid tactical response and cooperation from residents remain critical to preventing criminal networks from gaining ground in the state.

Global Mirror News will continue to monitor developments as police investigations into the alleged syndicate progress.
